This process has never before been attempted in the history of our country. Every American citizen of any age, sex, sexual orientation, color, political or religious persuasion, or none, and philosophical proclivity, is welcome to participate. It is imperative keep discussions free of rhetoric and partisanship to maintain the integrity and neutrality of this endeavor. There are no rules and regulations except; to abide by the simple code of conduct follows. All are responsible for themselves and their actions, to work for the greater good, to be aware of issues of importance, to have a happy and successful life, to act responsibly based on one’s beliefs, and to make integrity, the pillar of one’s being.
THE Petition will not be a vehicle for political or partisan rhetoric. Submissions of proposed amendments, and all discussion and commentary relating to any proposed amendment, will be of the highest integrity to insure that THE Petition is considered the the serious vehicle it is intended to be.
The purpose of this project is to initiate a direct petition the Congress of the United States. The Constitution will not be tampered with nor will the fundamental meaning of the Constitution be changed in this process. The Petition is intended to simplify an amendment procedure which worked well with 13 States in 1789, but is dysfunctional now in 2010 with 50.
This virtual online convention is designed to give Americans a powerful new voice and direct input into proposing amendments to the Constitution for the sole purpose of resolving National issues that Congress has been unable, or unwilling to address. Ultimately selected amendments will be written by Constitutional experts to insure there is no ambiguity of intention. When the proposed amendments are finally selected they will be written into a legal petition by experts and will be made available to any citizen of 18 years to digitally sign and have validated on this site. Paper petitions will also be available locally.
When sufficient validated signatures are obtained, THE petition will be presented to the Congress of the United States. The actual site and the sophisticated data base for signature capture and validation, as well as the interactive communications infrastructure, and the comprehensive library are being constructed off line by individual citizens in every State, who are donating professional services and time, instead of money. They use their own initiative, imagination and skills, with central control or administration other than to expedite the flow of information to achieve the goals of the convention.
Another purpose of this convention is to Educate. It will provide all teaching institutions, especially Elementary schools, and any citizen, a link to the interactive “People’s Library,” which will be the most comprehensive Internet source for information about the history of America, its form of government, its institutions, and all pertinent associated documents, papers, and letters, will be available with a single mouse click. The only powerful special interest here in the Peoples Forum will be the citizens of the United States of America.
